The most important thing is to just get out and play!
What’s keeping you from the golf course? Are you concerned that you are just a novice golfer? Are you worried about keeping track of all the rules? Don’t be.

Golf – It’s Good for You, Too.
If fun and a competitive spirit isn’t enough to get you out on the course, it might help to consider that playing golf has health benefits too.
The findings of recent studies revealed the following information:

- Walking (nine holes): 721
- Using push cart (nine holes): 718
- Using caddie (nine holes): 613
- Riding (nine holes): 411
- Hitting balls on the driving range: Approximately 200 calories per hour.
Miles Walked for Nine Holes of Golf (on a hilly course):
- Not riding in cart: 2.5
- Riding in cart: 0.5
A study done at the Rose Center for Health and Sports Sciences in Denver, Colorado concluded that golfers who walk 36 holes a week will burn around 2,900 calories per week. The threshold of 2,500 calories burned in a week is an important one; according to an Associated Press article, "Studies have shown that those who burn 2,500 calories a week improve their overall health by lowering their risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer."
Another study by cardiologist Dr. Edward A. Palank showed that walking golfers reduced their levels of bad cholesterol while keeping their good cholesterol steady, while the control group of riding golfers failed to show those good results.
Also, a recent study conducted by the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) found that walking an18-hole course was equal to 40 to 70 percent of the intensity of a maximum aerobic workout. Researchers found the death rate for golfers is 40% lower than for other people of the same sex, age and socioeconomic status.
