Air Force Libraries on a Mission!

The mission of the United States Air Force is to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace. The mission of Air Force Libraries is to provide access to information essential to the Air Force mission.

CSAF Reading list

General Ronald Fogleman created the CSAF Professional Reading Program in 1996 to develop a common frame of reference among Air Force members -- officers, enlisted, and civilians -- to help each of us become better, more effective advocates of air and space power. Each CSAF since then has enhanced and continued the Professional Reading Program.

Purchasing Materials for Offices

Air Force libraries purchase mission-essential information resources for organizations throughout the year. These materials can include books, subscriptions, DVDs or online databases. Mission-essential information resources are defined by AFI 34-270, paragraph 4.3, as "publications and services that directly bear on the functions, initiatives, and operations of Air Force agencies and that personnel must have on hand to carry out the installation mission effectively." Most AF organizations are eligible, although some units such as legal and medical offices are self funded for these materials. Contact your AF library to find out more information and how to request mission support materials for your office.

Supporting Readiness

AF libraries ship magazines, paperback books and DVDs monthly to deployed and remote units world-wide. We also provide support to exercises through the USAFE Library Service Center (LSC) at Ramstein AB, GE. runs small libraries at several downrange locations in conjunction with education services at Learning Resource Centers. Support to military missions, including Defense Attache Offices (DAOs), Offices of Defense Cooperation (ODCs), Military Liaison Teams (MLTs) in CENTAF is also handled by the USAFE LSC.

Support to Students of All Ages

Air Force libraries offer a wealth of resources for students of all ages - from K to graduate students and lifelong learners. From books on the shelves, downloadable audio and ebooks, online research databases and real time help from professional tutors - the library has you covered.
