Living with Honor and Respect
by Kimberly k
My husband joined the Air Force to provide for me. He promised a better life for both of us. 11 years later I set here realizing he fulfilled his promise and more. I didn't realize what all this meant until I went to Texas and watched him graduate basic training. It was in that moment I realized how special the Armed Forces are and that they really are heroes. I was moved to tears by that ceremony. I have seen my husband tired, stressed, and pushed to his very limit and persevere through many challenges including the Iraq War. He truly is my hero. Often I am left to care for the life we built together but I don't mind. It's hard, don't get me wrong. It's my job though. I signed up to stand by a solider and be his life line and I take that job very seriously. We have been through a hurricane, an earthquake, War and exercises and a remote and I wouldn't change my life, not ever. My husband and I can walk with our heads held high because we are members of a special club filled with honer and respect. Only military spouses know truly how much those men and woman sacrifice. Often we are overlooked for our sacrifices but thats okay because we aren't in for the glory any more than the soldiers are. I am proud to be a military spouse. Anyone who questions if my job is hard, well, I challenge them to walk a mile in my shoes. 4 am recalls, months of not knowing where in the world you husband really is, watching him collapse inside the door from exhaustion, stinky socks and so much more. Yes my life is good and I love every minute of it.
