My American Dream
   by Oyunchimeg Y

I was born and raised in Mongolia – former Soviet allied Communist country. Life was very different and I questioned much. I was privileged to come to the United States shortly after the Soviet fall. Once here, I learned much about patriotism and giving freely and unselfishly for the way of life the whole country enjoys. The language ability of mine helped me work for the government on some occasions and work with the military personnel from the US and abroad. I learned of pride in this country and sacrifice one is willing to make by wearing the uniform of the military. In my adventures, I met my husband who is an Army man and a patriot. My desire to serve my adopted country was fueled even more through his example – having him serve his country in three deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan each lasting year or more was humbling and inspiring. Being a military spouse was a sacrifice and a service but I felt compelled to do more. I was eventually able to earn my citizenship and my goal of joining the armed forces became a possibility not just a dream. I have chosen to join the Air Force for I truly do believe USAF is the greatest Air Force in the world and where I can fulfill my American dream to give back to my country which has given me so much. Now, I live in a home of Red, White and Blue. My Air Force life is my American dream and it involves not only my husband and I but everyone who is willing to fight for the freedom that have been fought for centuries for us.
