My Air Force Life as an Air Force Spouse
   by Brittnee F

Only a year and a half into my husband’s experience with the Air Force we got the devastating news he was going to be shipped off to Iraq. From a wife’s standpoint it is significantly devastating, six months of loneliness without your “other half” around anymore, but with this lonely six months coming to an end I have learned and grown so much. I have learned that being a military spouse means you are a spouse to a true American hero 100% of the time. I have also learned that you, as a spouse have to have a strong heart and a strong mind at all times. You have to be supportive at all times no matter how hard things get, and when your husband is deployed it’s definitely the hardest experience for me so far. Day to day to wonder and hope you get in contact with your love at some point. You go through your days worrying that he is safe and happy, and if he is unhappy try to be supportive even knowing you absolutely can do nothing. Send monthly care packages just to know he will smile for a moment. But all of this is worth it, because my spouse is a true American hero. He will come home with pride and for a different reason I will welcome him home with pride. I would not change my life for anything, my husband has the most important job in the USA and he keeps people safe. My Air Force life is structured, yet impulsive and you never know what could happen next, but I love my Air Force life. I would not change it for anything.
