My AF saved my life and made me want to live…
   by Jane C

I joined the AF right out of high school at the age of 18 and was stationed at Lackland AFB. I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 21. I thought I am never going to go to college...I am never going to have kids....am I even going to live? After 4 long years of treatment I was finally put into remission….and what do you know as if it could be better I was blessed to give birth to my daughter. Life was good until I lost my remission status and was in cancer treatment for 2 more years…..uhhh

I thought for sure I would get medically boarded but the AF gave me another chance. The AF believed in me so much I was selected for an AFIT program to get my degree. I could not believe this was happening I was in remission, I had my daughter and now I was going to be able to attend college! I was so proud and determined I graduated number 1 in my class. As if that was not good enough I was picked as the graduate speaker of my college graduating class of 5000 people! I could not have been part of that AFIT program or that graduating class if not for the AF. It was as if I was in a dream....I stood up, walked to the podium on stage, thanked my family and most of all thanked the AF for saving my life.

If you believe in yourself you can do anything! I am currently back in the AF serving my country and feeling blessed everyday that the AF saved my life and made me want to live.
