Proud Military Wife
   by Valencia W

As a military spouse, I have discovered every path I’ve taken leads me into a new direction. For over twenty years I have experienced the joys and the pains of relocating and missing family and friends. When I married my husband at the age of eighteen, I knew he was in the military, but I didn’t truly understand what it meant to be a Military Spouse. This journey as a military spouse has made me a stronger person, better wife, and mother. However, there have been challenges to both me and the children when my husband was deployed, or working long hours on the job. But those separations have made our family stronger. Every move has been a new adventure and opportunity to succeed or fail. I have always made wherever we were living, our home and refuge. My family has endured many sacrifices being a part of the military, but we have been rewarded as well with healthcare, job opportunities, education, financial planning, and housing benefits. Educational opportunities have allowed me to obtain a Master’s degree and employment opportunities with the Federal Government; which introduced me to a rewarding career building opportunity. Relocating has allowed me the opportunity to experience and see the world. My Air Force Life as a military spouse has been a rewarding and fulfilling opportunity to live, work, and travel the world. Nevertheless, my life as a military spouse has enabled me to focus on the most important aspect in my life; God, my family, and friends. As a United States Air Force Spouse, my family has found our peace through God and each other. I am proud to say my husband serves in the United States Air Force to defend and protect our great Nation.
