My Heroes
   by Amber M

Ever since my life began it has not been an easy life. I grew up in some of the worst possible situations. I never believed there was anything great in this world. A lot of people in my life had abandoned me and never even looked back. I was used to people coming and going, changing schools, and never having stability. That was all about to change. The summer before my Senior Year in High School, I met my future husband. He understood that I had a rough life and I came with some extra baggage, but he accepted that and loved me anyways. Things have not always been easy in our relationship. He knew he was joining the Air Force after graduation, so we were forced to think of our future while we were still teenagers. My husband has always wanted to be a pilot. He is not near being one, but the Air Force gives him a hope, that until the day he joined I never saw in his face. He knows he can accomplish great things in his life now. I guess when you are from a small town you never truly understand what you are worth. Growing up I was used to being second to other’s habits or other people. Being an Air Force wife means you are second to your husband’s job, but I can now appreciate it. To have stability and to see the love my husband has for his country means more to me than being number one in someone’s life. My Air Force life means more to me than words could ever express. It has saved my life, and for that I will always be truly grateful. My husband and The Air Force will always be my heroes.
