My Military Life
   by Mirtha L

When I first joined I didn't know what I was in for. I just knew I wanted to get away from home. I never thought that I would end up on the opposite end of the globe though. It's been very trying at times. There have been good times and bad times but all in all it has been memorable times. My military life is a life within itself. I get up and put on a uniform to go to work every day working a 7-4:30, sometimes longer. Then after work I get to work with what I call my kids coaching basketball, soccer, and cheerleading and it is so rewarding because when I get off of work my kids are the rest of my day and they make my week. At work I get to work with a diverse group of people. Then there are those rare times I have to get into soldier mode. Doing month long training, traveling all around the world for 6 months to a yr at a time. From Virginia to Afghanistan and back again, being deployed. When I get to travel it is so rewarding to see all of the faces that are proud of what I do and appreciate what I do for them and my country and that makes me proud to serve and wear the uniform that I wear on a day to day. Who would have thought that this would be my life? Coming in I didn't have a clue of what I would be getting into but if I could do it all over again I wouldn't change it for another life in the world.
