Space Camp

Apply to Fly! It’s time. If you are between the ages of 12-18 years you might be one of the lucky ones selected to attend Space Camp during the last week of each July. You will experience the excitement of space exploration at Space Camp, a 6-day program at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. While travel to and from the Center is not covered, most other costs are covered including lodging, meals and activity fees!

Here's all the COOL stuff you can do

  • Simulated Space Shuttle missions  
  • Training simulators
  • Rocket building and launches
  • Scientific experiments
  • Information on the past, present, and future of space exploration
  • Participants are selected through a competitive application process

Eligibility & Application

Application: Space Camp will be held at the US Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, AL.

  • OCONUS participants may arrive in Huntsville, AL on Saturday, 25 Jul 15 and depart on Friday, 31 Jul 15.
  • CONUS  participants arrive in Huntsville, AL on Sunday, 26 Jul 15 and depart on Friday, 31 Jul 15.

Cost: Lodging, meals, and activity fees are centrally funded beginning upon arrival to Space Camp.  Airfare or POV travel costs are the responsibility of the attendee or the installation.  Spending money for miscellaneous expenses is the responsibility of the participant.

Eligible Applicants: The applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • A dependent of Active Duty Military assigned to or living on an AF/JB installation, AF Retired Military, AF Civilian Employees, Air National Guard or AF Reserve who have been activated within the last 12 months
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.8 (must provide documentation)
  • Must be ages 12-14 to attend Space Academy or Robotics Academy, which is an intense experience designed to immerse middle school students in the science and technology of the space program.
  • Must be ages 15-18 to attend Advanced Space Academy or Aviation Challenge®.  This tract will immerse teens in science, technology, engineering and math.

Submission Instructions: Please read carefully, nominations not completed properly will not be accepted.

  1. Submit completed nomination forms to your Youth Programs Director, Guard representative (if applicable), or designee to set up an interview.
  2. After the interview process has been completed, Youth Programs staff or designee will forward nominations to their respective MAJCOM or SVI representatives.
  3. AFSVC/SVPY must receive all completed applications by 15 Apr 15.
